A Welcome from Donna
I’ve always been a spiritual seeker, doing my best to fulfill my mission to “heal the wounds that separate” in everything I do. I’ve been writing poetry since I was a little girl growing up in the panhandle of West Texas. It’s always been a vehicle for me to express my experience of divine love, to recount the exquisite beauty I see in nature, and to seek to make meaning of the suffering in the world that can be difficult to process and understand.
My new poetic memoir, Catch Me When I Fall, is a love song to my mother, and of the gifts of wisdom she’s shared with me, following her death. Mama passed away unexpectedly in 2018, and the letters and the poems in this book are a chronicle of the deepest loss I’ve ever experienced—a grief journey that has transformed me at my essence as I experienced a depth of a love between us I never knew was possible, and that despite our fraught history, I came to trust would never die.
When Mama was alive, I was her teacher, and since she’s transitioned to the other side, she’s become mine. This book is the story of my journey of grief, and how, as I allowed myself to fully enter its portal without resistance, it rendered me better, not bitter, as Mama once told me it would. It is my fervent hope that this book will be a healing balm for all who seek to heal a difficult relationship with a parent or for those who’ve experienced the loss of someone dear and are struggling to make meaning of that loss.
I look forward to meeting you virtually or in person and am honored and grateful you’ve joined me here to today.
